Kinja'd!!!

I'm shopping for a new car so if anyone is bored/ procrastinating I'd love some suggestions.

Requirements:

Low insurance

45mpg or better

under 8 years old

under 60'000 miles

£3'000 if possible but can stretch to £4'000 if I really like it.

Within 20-30 miles of TS25 4by (uk post code)

Mostly looked at Twingos so far.

How about a Yaris? Great cars. Toyotas are awesome.

Nice little cars the Twingos. Friend had one for a few years as a first car.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Nippy little motor. Not very fast by any means at all but as a cheap runabout that involved you more than some similar cars of the time it was pretty good.

Have you looked a VW Lupos?

VW stopped making Lupos ten years ago, so they fall short of the '8 years or younger' requirement.

I'd love to persuade you to buy something ridiculous, but I have issues entering your postcode.

VW Fox at the upper end of the price limit at £3,995 but that is for a 2010 VW Fox 1.2 3 door in red with 40,000miles on the lock.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

There is another VW Fox 1.2 Urban 3 door in silver lower down in your price range at £3,390 but at the upper end in mileage at 59,950.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Alternatively a Renault Clio 1.2 16v Extreme 3 door in silver with 60,000 miles on the clock on a 2010 plate for £3,500.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

and it's right on your doorstep.

Get a Twingo!

(This video isn't the full "proper" road test, but it's the best one I could find on YouTube.)

True. I just remembered when you said that, that Charlotte's Lupo was on a 51 plate. So ye', a little over the eight year mark by a bit. :)

I do like that, struggling to find one in my price range nearby though, that one is a little far. My Panda has to make it to the dealer under its own power and survive a test drive. There's not a chance in hell it'd make it 150 miles.

I do like the Fiesta, but I've driven one with the 1.25 and came away impressed with the car, but very unimpressed with the engine. We had a Megane like that in the family and it was a hateful thing.

The twingo is actually my first choice! I can't afford a 133 though, only the 75hp 1.2.

I like the look of the Fox but the performance specs put me right off. Too slow for my liking. That Clio is pretty nice, which site did you find it on?

I have paranoia so I only put in the first half of a UK postcode, I'll edit it to one you can actually use.

As mentioned Lupos are a bit old for me. I'll be using this car for longer journeys regularly so reliability and newness are important. I am finding myself really drawn to the Twingos though, going to look at 3 tomorrow.

Unfortunately I need to trade in the Panda so private sellers are no good. That car would've suited me though.

I've got a couple Yaris shortlisted to look at. They don't really interest me too much though, I will at least give one a test drive though.

The Clio is on Autotrader. The remainder of them were Nissan Pixos and Peroduas, awful things.

My neighbour Corinne got hers when it was three years old and had it for four years and it never put a foot wrong and she was often doing between 50 and 100 miles a day on country roads, city roads and motorways. All I had to do was polish out the odd scuff or scratch, change the occasional bulb and wash it. Hell Renault tried to buy it back from her.

That's good, most of the owner reviews I've read have been relatively positive too. If the one I'm seeing tomorrow has good service history and drives well I think I'll buy it.

It's not going to light your world on fire by any means as I say but is a good little car.

The Clio is a pretty good car also.

I just need a solid runaround that's fun enough to chuck about and isn't painfully slow. I enjoy the slow car fast philosophy. Clios are definitely decent cars, but the smaller car is tempting me more, most of my driving is in Newcastle and therefore the smaller the car the easier driving is.

The Twingo is certainly a good a good throw around vehicle that fits right into the slow car fast philosophy as what it doesn't have in speed it makes up for in turning agility.

Even if it's not the 133, you'll still probably be able to fit Ross Kemp in the trunk, and you may even still be able to go upside-down in Belfast's sewer tunnels. :)

What about a Honda Jazz 1.4 DSI SE? It fits everything but the miles.

I'm not sure I'll be attempting those things but it's good to know it can do it if I need it to haha.
